Today there is clear and growing support for the idea that companies can transform themselves into environmentally and socially responsible enterprises that deliver measurable benefits to society.
Many companies are searching for ways to "transform themselves into environmentally and socially responsible enterprises"; thus, proving their sustainability.
Sustainability is the backbone of TieTek’s business.
Our company’s founder had a vision – Preserve and Protect the Environment while creating a Viable Business. That vision has come to fruition resulting in:
- saving forests;
- reducing landfill waste;
- improving the environment and
- operating a viable business.
Production of 350,000 railroad ties (100 miles of track), from recycled plastic, rubber and waste fiberglass:
- reduces 40,000 metric tons carbon equivalent of greenhouse gas emissions;
- saves 75,000 mature trees;
- uses over 50 million pounds recycled plastic;
- recycles 1 million tires.
And if the need ever arises (although it may not, because our composite ties are estimated to last over 40 years) the composite ties themselves can be recycled to produce new composite ties.
In April 1999, the Houston Corporate Recycling Council presented Union Pacific and TieTek, LLC the Environmental Excellence Award for 1998. TieTek, LLC also won the Murray J. Fox Recycling Innovation Award in 2000. In 2008, the Society of Plastic Engineers awarded TieTek its 2008 Achievement Award recognizing TieTek for "Sustainability and Recycling for a Greener Environment".
Our vision of Preserving and Protecting the Environment while being a Viable Business has been, is, and will continue to be realized as TieTek grows and produces more ties and other composite products. (Did we mention that the US rail system replaces about 20 million ties per year?)
TieTek is making a business of “Sustainability” that is environmentally and socially responsible, delivering measurable benefits to society, while providing solid returns for its shareholders.
